James 2:1-13

The first group in my class presented their findings on this passage last Monday. I personally thought they did a very good job in explaining every possible details from the passage. What interested me is the word favoritism in Greek can also mean doubting. We showed favoritism to people because we doubt that God will not provide us; hence we cling to our own way of making things happen by showing favoritism to the rich and hoping that they will have mercy on us by funding us or recommending a good post for us. How true in today's society still! Many bow to those with gold and status. Therefore, James reminded the people of the royal law: "Love your neighbor as yourself" (v.8). We are not to exalt the rich nor are we hate the rich. We ought to show love to all, whether the rich or the poor, and the young or the old. He even equate favoritism with sin (v.9)! How serious!!!
