20100122 Ezer Kenegdo

It was a good break Christmas 2009. I will begin my second semester in three days and it's overwhelming for me to think of the reading assignments lining up for all the classes. Before I dive into the second semester, I want to take this opportunity to write about my experiences here.

Dec
2009 was a crucial month for me as I pressed in for the finals and papers for my first semester here. I managed to pass all the classes and ended the semester well by His bountiful grace. He enabled me and released His glory for His namesake.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. Isa 43:2.

Besides rushin
g for the deadlines and finals in December, I had a memorable Christmas being with a new communities in a new environment. On Christmas eve, I went to my church for the Christmas eve service at 4pm and then a family from the church invited me for dinner at their house. It was a good Italian meal and they surprised me with gifts! Then, on Christmas day, I went with a family to visit friends and of course food and fellowship again! Glad to learn from and be part of the American culture. The people are generally nice and friendly (at least so far those I met :p). I was invited by a Vietnamese family to fellowship with them and tried their homemade Vietnamese food.

After that night, I flew to Kansas City for two weeks being at IHOP (International House of Prayer). I attended Onething Conference with 20,000 partici
pants followed by Leadership Summit and Cultivating Forerunner Worship. I also had the opportunity to spend some days at the Global Prayer Room which operates 24/7 with people praying and worshipping the Lord. I got to spent my New Year day with one of my friends at Kansas City. I truly thank God for how He has blessed me with opportunity to learn and equip myself to becoming better kingdom worker.

I am looking forward to l
earn more in the upcoming semester. I have signed up for six classes, four Old Testament classes and two of others.
1- Learning Hebrew & Its Grammar II
2- OT Theology & Religion

3- Understanding the Kingdom of Israel & Its prophets

4- Reading the Old Testament from the two-third world

5- Mentoring & Spiritual Formation and

6- Thesis Proposal

I am still deciding whether to take Worship & Culture. Even though I may have settled in with the groove of studying, may I remain humble in depending on God for my studies.

Ezer Kenegdo is found in Genesis 2:18 when God made Eve as Adam's Ezer Kenegdo. God did not just make an Ezer for Adam, but Ezer Kenegdo. Ezer also appears in Psalm 121: my help (ezer) comes from the maker of heaven and the earth. Kenegdo modifies ezer, which literally means a
help against him. How can she be for him if she is against him? It is a common misconception among young couples that husband and wife should be in total synch; any difference of opinion is seen as a sign of incompatability and marital failure. The truth, however, is to the contrary. Couples are not meant to be clones of one another; rather they should complement one another. If man so merits, his mate will be a help (ezer) to him; if not, she will act against him (kenegdo). Not that they mean to insert the word or in the verse. But that kenegdo modifies ezer; indicating just what kind of a help a wife is to be; namely, the kind that goes against her husband. By this they mean that opposition from a spouse is, in fact, a desirable quality. Lacking that quality, she will be against him. We are called to be the bride of God and hence we are the ezer kenegdo to God. Struggles are inevitable in lives, but struggles would bring us closer to God, our helper. Trusting Him as my helper was the one of the lessons I learned last semester and He did not fail me. Rest assured in His agape and trust Him.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Heb 12:2.

Thank God for His guidance, I was able to find a mentor for the spiritual formation group starting next semester. Pray that I'll be diligent in this learning process at the seminary and be a blessing to others.
